Welcome! I created this page because although Cushing's Syndrome is a rare condition, people are suffering from it every day. I wanted to raise awareness on what Cushing's Syndrome is, the commonly seen signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options available, local support groups where you can connect with other who are in similar circumstances as you, and where you can go to find more information.
What is Cushing's Syndrome?
Cushing’s syndrome is a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure of the body’s tissues to high levels of the hormone cortisol. Sometimes called hyper-cortisolism, Cushing’s syndrome is relatively rare and most commonly affects adults aged 20 to 50. People who are obese and have type 2 diabetes, along with poorly controlled blood glucose—also called blood sugar—and high blood pressure, have an increased risk of developing the disorder. My hopes in creating this page would be to create awareness about Cushing's Syndrome because for some, they may go years without a diagnosis, and I believe it is important to have a place you can come to find all the information and resources you will need to help you on your journey. On the left hand side of the page, you will find a video bar with some videos I thought may be helpful in describing what Cushing's Syndrome is, and below is a video showing Kate's story of what she has been through and her journey to find a diagnosis of Cushing's Syndrome, despite many doctor visits and numerous labs done.
